The Wright Center hosts ribbon-cutting for Carbondale location

The Wright Center for Community Health celebrated the opening of its newest community health center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 12, in Carbondale.

The Wright Center for Community Health Friendship House – Carbondale, located inside Friendship House’s new Whole-Person Care Center at 30 N. Main St., Suite 100, began seeing patients Thursday, Aug. 13. Led by Medical Director Bryan Boyle, a longtime board-certified physician assistant, the community health center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The new location provides whole-person primary and preventive health services, including checkups, health screenings, and treatment for common illnesses and injuries. Care is available for everyone, regardless of insurance status, ZIP code, or ability to pay. Patients do not need to be a Friendship House client to receive care at the community health center.

“For generations, Friendship House has helped children, adults, and families build resilience through an extraordinary continuum of care that includes mental and behavioral health services, autism and developmental disability programs, social services, school-based behavioral health support, and integrated primary care,” Dr. Linda Thomas-Hemak, president and CEO of The Wright Center, said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “The Wright Center complements that work by providing comprehensive whole-person primary and preventive health services while educating and training the next generation of physicians and interprofessional healthcare teams. Together, we are making it easier for individuals and families to access compassionate, coordinated care in one trusted setting – care that recognizes each person’s inherent dignity, supports recovery and resilience, promotes lifelong wellness, and helps people achieve their fullest potential.”

The community health center in Carbondale marks The Wright Center’s second partnership with Friendship House. Since November 2024, The Wright Center’s clinical team has provided primary care at more than 3,500 patient visits at Friendship House’s Whole Person Care Center in Scranton, located at 200 Wyoming Ave.

The Wright Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1976, The Wright Centers for Community Health, Graduate Medical Education, and Patient & Community Engagement is a physician-led, community-owned nonprofit and a cornerstone of health care in the region. The organization employs nearly 680 professionals – including nearly 200 resident and fellow physicians – and trains more than 200 interprofessional health care learners each year.

In fiscal year 2025-26, The Wright Center served more than 39,000 unique patients across all care settings in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, and Wyoming counties. As a Federally Qualified Health Center and safety-net provider, The Wright Center serves all patients, regardless of insurance status, ZIP code, or ability to pay. Kolmar, a leading contract manufacturer of innovative beauty, skincare, and personal care products, is proud to announce a $60M expansion of its campus in Scott Township, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.

“I am incredibly excited and proud to expand our footprint in Scott Township and take this next big step in growing our business in the United States, said Yong Chul (“Ben”) Hur, chief executive officer, Kolmar. This new facility isn’t just about growing our production capabilities—it’s about creating new opportunities, strengthening our community, and building the future of beauty manufacturing right here in northeast Pennsylvania.”

We thank Kolmar for its major expansion and investment, and especially for demonstrating that Lackawanna County works.”

Wright Center Hosts Ribbon Cutting for New Community Health Center

The Wright Center for Community Health hosted a ribbon cutting and open house on Tuesday, Sept. 3, to celebrate the opening of its newest community health center in Dickson City.

The new full-service, family-friendly office at 312 Boulevard Ave. opened for patient care on Tuesday, Sept. 3, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house held at 5:30 p.m. Along with members of the public, Dickson City Borough Councilmen Jack Horvath and Richard Cesari; Borough Manager Cesare Forconi; Drew Popish, Gov. Josh Shapiro’s northeast regional director; and Thom Welby, state Rep. Bridget Malloy Kosierowski’s district director, attended the event.

Drs. Supriana Bhandol and Ajit Pannu, who will lead the new location, offered health center tours during the open house. Both doctors are graduates of The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education’s Regional Family Medicine Residency and began providing care to patients at The Wright Center for Community Health in Scranton in November.

The new location occupies the former medical offices of Drs. Cynthia M. Oleski and Giovanni Ramos. After deciding to relocate, the doctors contacted The Wright Center, which has been providing responsive and inclusive whole-person primary health services across the region for decades, to ensure that patients would not experience any interruptions in care.

The Wright Center for Community Health in Dickson City will be open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering affordable, comprehensive whole-person primary health services for people of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics. Services will include checkups, physicals, screenings, treatment of common illnesses and injuries, and more. To make an appointment, call 570-489-4567 or visit TheWrightCenter.org.

In addition to the Dickson City location, The Wright Center will also open its first primary care community health center in Wyoming County on Monday, Sept. 9, at the former Tyler Memorial Hospital, 5950 U.S. Route 6, Suite 401, Tunkhannock. With these new locations, The Wright Center will operate 12 community health centers, including a mobile medical and dental unit called Driving Better Health, serving patients of all ages, income levels, and insurance statuses in Northeast Pennsylvania.

The Wright Center for Community Health offers a sliding-fee discount program. Based on a family’s size and income level, the program reduces barriers to care and ensures everyone has access to affordable, whole-person primary health services.
