The Waverly Community House Announces Fall Programs

The Waverly Community House will host a three-week Gardening Series at The Waverly Community House. The first week is spring bulb planting. The second week is deer-resistant plants. The third week is fall gardening. This will take place Wednesdays 6:00-7:30 PM September 13th through September 27th or Thursdays 10:00-11:30AM September 14th through September 28th. The registration fee is $25 for all three classes. Participants will receive 10 bulbs each to plant in their own gardens! Click here to register.

The class second is a beginner-level Spanish class for grades 6-8 with Kelly Lynott at The Waverly Community House. Kelly Lynott will teach beginner-level Spanish classes for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at the Comm! No previous Spanish experience is required, and it is intended for kids who show a genuine interest in learning the language. Students are required to bring a notebook, folder, and pencils. Access to cell phones for digital flashcards is encouraged but not required. Max capacity 10 students. This class will focus on greetings, basic phrases, and present tense verbs via reading, writing, and speaking. The class will begin on September 20th, 2023, and run for eight weeks (with no class on October 11th). It will be on Wednesdays 3:00 pm—3:45 pm COST: $100 at the CRB room. The third class is an Introduction to Spanish for Adults. The objective of this six-week course is to establish a foundational understanding of the Spanish language through practical vocabulary development, a stock of frequently used phrases, and an idea of fundamental grammar and cultural perspectives. It will be Tuesdays for six at 6:00 PM beginning September 19th in the CRB Room. The cost is $65. Click here to register.

The fourth class is a children’s mixed media art class for ages 7-12 years. There is no experience necessary. It will be Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm. on September 20th through October 4th. The cost is $110 for a six-week series. All supplies are included and will take place in the Scout Room at The Comm. Click here to register.

Waverly Community House to Host 2023 Cocktails for the Courts

Waverly Community House is hosting the 2023 Cocktail for the Courts summer party on August 18th from 6 PM – 8 PM on the front lawn of the Comm. Tickets are $35.00 per person and $40.00 at the door. There will be music by The Mark Nolan Jazz Duo and light Hors D’Oeuvres, Beer, Wine, and a Signature Drink. All proceeds benefit Comm Tennis and Recreation Programs. To buy tickets, click here.

Waverly Community House to Host Events

The Waverly Community House will be hosting multiple events in the next coming weeks. On August 13 @ 1:00 pm, they will host Montrose: The Underground Railroad and the Civil War Era

This program will cover the history of Montrose, Pennsylvania, the Susquehanna County seat. Destination Freedom Program Manager, EJ Murphy, will highlight the town’s connection to the Underground Railroad, local anti-slavery and abolitionist movements and various aspects of the Civil War era history. The event is free and open to the public.

The Waverly Community House to Host Waverly Waddle

On Saturday, May 13, 2023, The Waverly Community House will be hosting the 31st Annual Waverly Waddle. This year, 25% of all registration fees will go to the Countryside Conservancy. This event will take place at 1115 North Abington Road, Waverly PA 18471. Check in between 8:00AM-8:45AM. The race will start at 9:00AM.

The Waverly Waddle is the Comm’s annual 5k walk/run beginning and ending at the Waverly Community House. The “Waddle” travels an approximate 3-mile route through scenic Waverly. It takes place each year in May on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. It is an official electronic chip-timed race with awards given out to top finishers in each age/sex division.This long-standing community event, which signals a spirited kick-off to summer always takes place, rain or shine! Official race t-shirts are given out to those who register early. Registrations are accepted in advance HERE and on the morning of the race. Registration is required by April 13th in order to receive a free t-shirt.
