Outreach – Center for Community Resources Parent Café for Fathers Outreach invites Fathers in the community to attend the Parent Café on June 10, 2022, from 10 am – 11:30 am. The topic of the Parent Café is Dad Talks and will feature Pennsylvania State Representatives Kyle Mullins and Thom Welby, sharing their experiences as Fathers. The Dad Talks Parent Café will be held at the Outreach – Center for Community Resources, 431 North Seventh Avenue in Scranton on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 10 am to 11:30 am, and will include lunch for attendees and their children. Outreach invites area fathers to spend a morning with their peers to share stories, concerns, joys, and accomplishments in a supportive environment. Boback’s Bill to Assist Older Foster Youth Passed by House A bill sponsored by Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming) that would help older foster youth in Pennsylvania to find more permanent family connections was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives on Monday. “Young people who leave the child welfare system without having adults in their lives to provide assistance often end up in jail or homeless,” said Boback. “My bill would give foster youth every possible opportunity to find a permanent family during this critical transition period.” House Bill 1866 would build on existing state requirements that foster youth receive counseling and other services as they grow older, including the identification of family members who may be willing to assume a primary caretaker or other supportive role. Boback’s proposal would also ensure those requirements are fully and effectively implemented. The bill will next be considered by the Senate.
NeighborWorks NEPA Receives Contribution from NBT Bank NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania (NeighborWorks) recently accepted a contribution from NBT Bank, in the amount of $10,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). The contribution will support the Scranton Beautiful Blocks Program for 2022. Beautiful Blocks, which is jointly sponsored by NeighborWorks and the City of Scranton, provides matching grants of up to $1,000 to each member of a group of at least five Scranton residents to help them make exterior improvements to their homes. Grants are awarded annually through a competitive application process.

PennDOT Centers Closed for Memorial Day Holiday The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that all driver license and photo centers, including the Riverfront Office Center in Harrisburg, will be closed Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day. Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov. Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver’s license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services. A complete listing of PennDOT driver and photo license center closings in 2022 is available online.
