COLTS to Increase Involvement with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises

COLTS has set goals to enhance and increase involvement with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises up to 1.2% for the fiscal years of 2024 to 2026.

With upcoming projects and continued improvement of operation, COLTS will need to purchase various materials and products including, but not limited to, maintenance equipment, rolling stock, and IT equipment. In order to achieve their goals, COLTS is seeking for businesses who meet DBE criteria set by the Department of Transportation. While you may not have the official DBE certification, COLTS can assist in providing the information about qualifications and offer direction in attaining this accreditation.

COLTS formally invites you to join them next month for a Zoom Meeting to introduce their team and further discuss the initiative of achieving DBE goals. If interested, please contact kmcandrew@coltsbus.com or 570-346-2061 ext. 1233.

COLTS to Service Keystone Industrial Park, Offering More Opportunities for Employees

Beginning May 17 , the County of Lackawanna Transit System will service the Keystone Industrial Park on the #12 Jessup route.

“We were very pleased to reroute a current bus in so that it can get employees of multiple businesses within the Keystone Industrial Park to work,” said Execu-tive Director Bob Fiume. “COLTS has been working diligently to expand service to industrial parks over the past few years.”
The Jessup bus will now service the Park twice in the morning and three times in the afternoon. The official stop listed on the schedule is Barry Callebaut, but there are three other stops available within the Park.

A new route that will serve CANPACK and Mid Valley Drive is also starting May 17. There will be both an inbound and an outbound trip in the morning and in the afternoon. CANPACK purchased passes in bulk for employees to utilize the ser-vice, guaranteeing ridership on the temporary route. The #16 Mid Valley Special meets up with the #11 Mid Valley Industrial Parks and #12 Jessup at the Jessup Youth Sports Complex.

COLTS to Offer Free Rides to Bicyclists During National Bike to Work Week

The County of Lackawanna Transit System (COLTS) will offer free rides to bicyclists during National Bike  to Work Week, which falls this year from May 17 through May 23.

“We were very interested in offering an incentive for people to utilize multimodal transportation as a viable way to travel,” said Executive Director Bob Fiume. “Passengers who might have a long commute may want to try cycling to work and then taking a COLTS bus home.”

Each fixed route COLTS bus has an easy-to-use bike rack in the front that can hold two bicycles. Cyclists who want to use the bike racks just need to let the driver know they will be using them.
There are not bike racks on the shared ride vans or subcontracted vehicles that run the #11 Mid Valley Industrial Parks, #46 Mall Circulator, #80 Commerce Loop, #71 Evening City Circle North, and #72 Evening City Circle South routes.

If both bike spaces are occupied, a cyclist will have to wait for the next bus, as bikes cannot be transported inside the vehicle.
