The Waverly Community House – Cars & Coffee, Summer Concerts, and Waverly Wine Fest

Hosted on the Comm Lawn and grounds, guests are invited to gain a unique glimpse of collectible automobiles ranging from classic to exotic, antique cars and hot rods. Many of the owners remain by their vehicles and are delighted to share their knowledge with admirers. This event is free and open to the public with donations gratefully accepted. Complimentary coffee and snacks provided!

Spend a delightful afternoon sampling wine and other beverages, exploring delicious food options, and shopping diverse and interesting vendors.

Lackawanna Historical Society, Home and Garden Tour Returns to the Abingtons

After more than 20 years conducting tours of Scranton’s historic Hill Section, the Lackawanna Historical Society invites you to venture “Beyond the Hill” this summer to explore homes and gardens in Waverly, Clarks Summit, and North Abington! The Society will present “Beyond the Hill: Enjoy the Homes & Gardens of the Abingtons” on Sunday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participants will follow a self-guided tour to five private homes and outdoor spaces, and a members-only club.

The Beyond the Hill tour provides an opportunity to learn about the history of the elegant neighborhoods in the Abingtons and the history of some of its stately residences. Explore homes ranging from a historic estate and farmhouses with pioneer roots, a light-filled modern residence, and a whimsical, sprawling landscape. Tour sites include the Waverly Club, private residences at 562 Kennedy Creek Road, 260 Oakford Road, 1008 Summerfield Drive, 15989 State Route 407, and the gardens at 743 Fairview Road. A tour book and map with a suggested driving route will be provided.

The Waverly Community House, Art of the Abingtons Launches Inaugural Artist Studio Tour

Mark your calendar for a vibrant weekend of art and creativity! Art of the Abingtons is proud to present its first-ever Artist Studio Tour on Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17, from 10 AM to 4 PM each day.

This self-guided tour invites you into the working studios of local artists across the greater Abington area—including Dalton, Waverly, and Clarks Summit. Visitors will enjoy an intimate look at where creativity happens and engage directly with artists as they share their work, inspiration, and process. Mediums include painting, ceramics, jewelry, printmaking, and more.

Participating artists include:

Cara Colombo, Lisa Cunningham, Peter Hoffer, Joe Kluck, Josiah Lewis, Kristie Miller McMahon, Christine Medley, Bill Tersteeg, and Dr. Mel Wolk.

To kick off the tour, join us for an Opening Reception and Group Exhibition on Friday, August 15 from 6–8 PM at The Gathering Place in Clarks Summit. The exhibit will feature selected works from each artist and remain on view through September 9th.

The Waverly Community House Appoints Interim Executive Director

The Board of Trustees of the Waverly Community House is pleased to announce the appointment of Gia Tugend as Interim Executive Director, following the departure of Michelle Hamilton.

Ms. Hamilton, who was appointed Executive Director in June 2023, has concluded her tenure with the organization. The Board extends its sincere gratitude to her for her service and leadership.

Ms. Tugend brings extensive experience and deep institutional knowledge to the role, having served the Waverly Community House since 2012 in a variety of capacities. Most recently, she held the position of Director of Institutional Advancement and Digital Social Media.

“We are confident in Gia’s leadership and we’re fortunate to have a seasoned, capable team in place,” said Betsy Curtin, President of the Board of Trustees. “They know The Comm inside and out – its deep traditions, its importance to the community, and the high standard of service it represents. Programs and services will continue without interruption. The Comm is strong, and it’s in excellent hands.”

The Board will soon establish a search committee to identify and appoint a permanent Executive Director. In the meantime, Ms. Tugend will ensure continued momentum and a smooth transition.
