SWB RailRiders, Cornielle Earns International League Pitcher of the Week by MiLB

Minor League Baseball has announced its weekly awards for August 24-30 and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Alexander Cornielle was named the International League’s Pitcher of the Week. The RailRider did not allow a run in eight frames to garner in the deepest outing of his career.

Rodríguez made the start for the RailRiders on Friday, helping the team to 9th shutout victory. The right-hander
tossed eight innings of quiet ball. He allowed just two hits and a pair of walks, while striking out six. Cornielle
is the first SWB pitcher who has entered for the eighth frame this season.

The 25-year-old, has lowered his ERA to 2.83 in 54.0 innings of work. He has made a dozen starts with
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, racking up 53 strikeouts and holding a .210 average against. Cornielle has been getting
stronger and more efficient with each month after beginning the season on the 60-Day Injured List. In August,
he boasts a 1.57 ERA through four starts, totalling 23 strikeouts.

Cornielle joins Brendan Beck as the only other pitcher from the RailRiders to receive the award this season. It is his first time being honored and marks SWB’s sixth selection of the summer. Yanquiel Fernández and Tyler Hardman have also won as Player’s of the Week.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre takes on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for a seven-game set at PNC Field. The RailRiders
