Education

Quality education, from preschool through graduate school, is one of the region’s top priorities. Lackawanna County has 11 public school districts, as well as a Career Technology Center and several parochial and private schools. The region is also the home to 16 post-secondary institutions, enrolling more than 52,000 students.

High school graduation rates in Lackawanna County are significantly higher than state and national averages and drop-out rates are miniscule, less than 2 percent in most local districts.

Close to 80 percent of the region’s public school graduates further their education, many choosing to do so at one of the local colleges, universities and technical schools located throughout northeastern Pennsylvania.
