Holiday Table Designs

Create a festive holiday centerpiece and become inspired with creative and elegant ways to transform the landscape of your holiday table with heirlooms, natural materials, and special treasures. Learn how to dress up a simple place setting and create a table centerpiece. $35 Fee (supplies included)

 

Burlap Holiday Wreath Making 

Saturday, November 3, 2018

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Fireplace Lounge, Hibbard Campus Center

Bring the burlap trend to your front door as you design and create a beautiful holiday wreath using a variety of burlaps, colored ribbon, and accents. Burlap wreaths can be hung on a door, over a fireplace or just about anywhere inside or outside your home to add holiday cheer. $40 Fee (supplies included)

 

Baby and Me Ceramics

Sundays, November 4, 11, 18, 25 and December 2, 2018

Noon-3 p.m., Fine Arts Center, Ceramics Studio

Create one-of-a kind keepsakes with your little one. Incorporates basic clay techniques that allow participants to successfully create personalized keepsakes for your little bundle of joy with multiple sounds and bright coloration. Projects include percussive pods/rattles, set of tiles (with relating patterns, personalized handprints, or images that tell a story), mobiles, whistles, and finger-puppets. Basic level, no experience required, ages 18 and up with baby 12 months and younger. Babies may accompany parents to class. $250 Fee (materials included), 5 sessions, 15 total hours

 

SolidWorks Basics Class

Monday and Wednesday Evenings, November 5, 7, 12 and 14, 2018

6-9 p.m., Theatre in Brooks, Design Studio

Learn the basics of 3D Design in SolidWorks, the industry-wide professional CAD program. Topics covered include the interface, sketching and dimensioning, extruding and cutting, finalizing and exporting files to print, and creating drawings for presentation. Bring in a project you want to create, or use instructor assigned objects. Basic level, no experience required, ages 16 and up.  $225 Fee, 4 sessions, 12 total hours

 

Introduction to Wheel Throwing

Mondays and Wednesdays, November 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 26, 28 and December 3, 5, and 10, 2018

6-8 p.m., Fine Arts Center, Ceramics Studio

Learn how to throw clay pots on the wheel and explore a variety of different forms including mugs, vases, bowls, and plates. Surface techniques such as texture and glazing will also be discussed and explored. Basic level, no experience required, ages 14 and up. $290 Fee (materials included), 10 sessions, 20 total hours

 

Alternative Ceramic Firing Techniques: Raku and Terra Sigillata

Tuesdays, November 6, 13, 20, and 27 and December 4, 2018

6-9 p.m., Fine Arts Center, Ceramics Studio

Experiment with traditional ceramic surface decoration techniques, Raku and Terra Sigillata, combined with the Victorian custom of “hair weaving.” In traditional terra sigillata, horse hair is burned into the surface of bisque ware leaving very beautiful carbon marks behind. Victorian hair weaving is a process that involves weaving hair into a flower, leaf or other natural pattern using copper wire to hold the hair in place. This process adds a layer of evolution and interest to traditional terra sigillata, creating beautiful flower motifs in the burned carbon marks left behind. Explore the intersection of the traditional and contemporary in ceramic art. Intermediate level, some ceramic experience required, ages 16 and up. $175 Fee (materials included), 5 sessions, 15 total hours

 

First Aid and CPR

Tuesday, November 6 and Thursday, November 8, 2018

6-8 p.m., Fireplace Lounge, Hibbard Campus Center

Provides critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered include first aid; choking relief in adults, children, and infants; and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. $75 Fee, 2 sessions, 4 total hours

 

Idea to Object: Creating Your First 3-D Prototype

Tuesday and Thursday evenings, November 13, 15, 20, 27, 29 and December 4, 2018

6-9 p.m., Theatre in Brooks, Design Studio

Take your idea from concept to finished prototype using web-based modeling software. A perfect class for the inventor, entrepreneur, or anyone with an idea they would like to see come to life. Basic level, no experience required, ages 16 and up. $290 Fee, 6 sessions, 18 total hours

 

Holiday Ornament One Day Workshop

Saturday, December 1, 2018

9-10 a.m., 10-11 a.m., and 11 a.m.-Noon. Please indicate your preferred time slot at registration. Space is limited. Ornaments may be picked up Sunday, December 2, 2-5 p.m. or by prior arrangement.

Wilbur Myers Glass Studio

Design and create your own special holiday ornament in blown glass with the assistance of the “hot shop” team. Make the perfect gift or addition to your holiday décor. Basic level, no experience required, ages 12 and up. Ages 12 -15 must be accompanied by an adult. $40 Fee (materials included) 1 hour session, 3 options
