Nonprofit Veterinary Clinic Adopts New Business Model Members News February 13, 2026 NEPA Rescue Veterinary Clinic, a nonprofit veterinary clinic operated by Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, has announced a major expansion of its access-to-care model. Across the United States, access to veterinary care is increasingly out of reach for many households. National research shows that more than half of U.S. animal guardians have delayed or declined needed veterinary care, most often due to cost. At the same time, the veterinary profession is facing a severe workforce shortage, with demand for services far exceeding the number of available veterinarians. The result is a growing access-to-care crisis marked by long wait times, limited appointment availability, and impossible choices for families who love their animals. Beginning in 2025, the clinic will offer sliding-scale pricing to all households, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to essential veterinary care while maintaining the highest standards of medical quality. Under the new model, clients select a pricing tier aligned with their household income, using ranges based on the federal poverty guidelines: ● Households at or below 100% of the federal poverty line receive a 15% discount. ● Households between 101% and 150% receive a 10% discount. ● Households between 151% and 200% receive a 5% discount. ● Households above 200% of the federal poverty line pay full price, consistent with the clinic’s advertised fees. “All animals deserve compassionate, high-quality veterinary care, and all guardians deserve to be treated with dignity,” said Indra Lahiri, PhD, Founder and CEO of Indraloka Animal Sanctuary. “This sliding-scale model acknowledges the real financial pressures families are facing while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our nonprofit clinic.” All patients receive the same standard of medical care regardless of pricing tier. Income information is kept confidential and is used solely to determine pricing. NEPA Rescue Veterinary Clinic provides wellness care, spay and neuter surgeries, sick visits, and other essential services, with a particular focus on rescue organizations and community members who might otherwise delay or forgo care altogether.
