SCRANTON, Pa. – Beginning in Fall 2018, Lackawanna College will offer a series of Workforce Development programs that will be open to the public. Programs offered will be Effectively Dealing with Conflict, Overview of Project Management, Finance for the Non-Financial Manager, and Cultural Diversity in the Workplace.

All programs will be held at Lackawanna College’s Scranton campus, Tobin Hall, room 209B, 501 Madison Ave., Scranton or at the Lackawanna College Hazleton Center at 2 East Broad Street, Hazleton. Overview of Public Workforce Development Programs at Lackawanna College:

Effectively Dealing with Conflict
Learn new tools and techniques to help you to manage conflict. Included in this training will be Thomas-Kilmann’s Conflict Resolution instrument, used by Human Resources and Organizational Development consultants as a catalyst to open discussions on difficult issues and facilitate learning about how conflict-handling modes affect personal, group, and organizational dynamics.

Conflict is inevitable in the world of work and dealing effectively with conflict while maintaining your professionalism and the company’s interests are critical components of successfully resolving conflict.

Date: Sept. 25, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Scranton | Sept. 27, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Hazleton
Fee: $350/ person (includes lunch and program materials)

Overview of Project Management
Overview of Project Management is a one-day training program that will provide vocabulary and structure for those who are new to project management or those with some experience who do not have formal training. Participants will be exposed to the elements to consider the next time they set up a project for success. Bring an emerging, work-related project idea and work in teams to apply new information and practice project management processes.  Planning tools, such as 13 questions, will be used for gathering high-level information about a project, scope statement, work breakdown structure, and project network diagram.

Date:  Oct. 3, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Scranton | Oct. 2, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Hazleton
$350/ person (includes lunch and program materials)

Finance for the Non-Financial Manager

This one-day training program will teach participants how to be comfortable with numbers and use data for making decisions.  Budgeting and reading financial statements are included.  If you or your employees have anxiety about the working with finances, this training program will provide usable skills and a level of comfort.

Date: Oct. 5, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in Scranton | October 12, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in Hazleton
$350/ person (includes lunch and program materials)

Cultural Diversity in the Workplace

In this half-day training program, participants will learn business practices that are culturally sensitive and inclusive. Understand why it makes business sense to have employees become culturally competent. Participants will prepare themselves for managing the dynamics of differences through self-awareness, identifying their cultural communication skills and the culture of the organization.

Participants will explore diversity through deep and surface culture, become of their privilege and power, and develop skills to have greater insight into the social and cultural issues needed to affect positive change within their organization.

Date: Oct. 16, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in Scranton | October 23, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in Hazleton
