Lackawanna College Environmental Center Announces November Calendar of Events

November 2018 Calendar of Events

 

November 2, 2018                   Adult CPR/AED Certification, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Join Sandcut Outdoors, for an American Red Cross CPR and AED training that teaches students when and how to be prepared to give life-saving CPR along with when and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Must be at least 14 years of age. The CRP/AED training is a prerequisite for the WRFA class offered Nov. 3 and 4th, 2018. Students taking Friday night’s CPR/AED along with Saturday and Sunday’s Wilderness and Remote First Aid (WRFA) together will receive a discounted rate of $225 for both classes. Adult CPR/AED ONLY is $90 per student. Pre-registration required and space is limited. Must call to register. November 3 & 4, 2018            Wilderness and Remote First Aid Certification, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This American Red Cross training isn’t limited to far away, wild places. It is advanced first aid designed for when advanced care by EMS is greater than 30 minutes away, which can happen more often then we think. Presented by Sandcut Outdoors, this class is required for all Boy Scout leaders taking scouts on remote camping/backpacking trips. Prerequisites – Must be at least 14 years old and possess a current Adult CPR/AED certification. Students taking Friday night’s CPR/AED along with Saturday and Sunday’s Wilderness Remote First Aid (WRFA) together receive a discounted rate of $225 for both classes. WRFA course only is $180 per student. Registration is limited and pre-registration is required. November 12, 2018                 Early Explorers: Critter Camouflage, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Early Explorers is a unique program series for children ages 3-6 and a guardian that offers discovery-based learning about the natural world through stories, art, and outdoor explorations. How do you hide if you’re a rabbit? Or a deer? Come explore the ways in which animals use camouflage! Search for hidden animals, and play a game called Animal Camouflage. Cost is $40 for a series of 6 classes or $8 per class.  Classes run every other Monday from Sept. 17 to Nov. 26, 2018. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. November 26, 2018                 Early Explorers: Things that Glitter, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Early Explorers is a unique program series for children ages 3-6 and a guardian that offers discovery-based learning about the natural world through stories, art, and outdoor explorations. Explore the trails and marvel at the shapes and patterns that frost creates plus other signs of winter. We will conclude by making a glittery craft to take home. Cost is $40 for a series of 6 classes or $8 per class. Classes run every other Monday from Sept. 17 to Nov. 26, 2018. From Rt. 81 or Rt. 380 South Bound: Take Rt. 380 South to exit 20 toward Daleville.  Go left onto Rt. 307 S.  Travel approx. 2 miles and turn right onto Rt. 2018, Dorantown Road (Perih Group LLC will be on your left). Travel 1 mile and make a left on to Sandy Beach Road. Travel 1 mile and make a right onto MacKenzie Road (gravel road). Follow MacKenzie Road until you reach LCEEC on your left.

 

From Rt. 380 North Bound: Take exit 13 onto Rt. 435 N toward Gouldsboro (approx. 4 miles). Bear left onto Rt. 307 (approx.7 miles). Turn left onto Rt. 2018, Dorantown Road (Perih Group LLC will be on your right). Travel 1 mile and go left onto Sandy Beach Road. Travel 1 mile and make a right onto MacKenzie Road (gravel road).  Follow MacKenzie Road until you reach LCEEC on your left.

 

From Scranton Rt. 307: Follow Rt. 307 for 10 miles (through 3 lights, Lake Scranton, Rt. 690 & Rt. 502. Make a right on Dorantown Road Rt. 2018 (Perih Group LLC will be on your left). Travel 1 mile and make a left on to Sandy Beach Road. Travel 1 mile and make a right onto MacKenzie Road. Follow MacKenzie Road until you reach LCEEC on your left.
