Lackawanna College Announces New Scholarship for Local High-Achieving Students Members News May 20, 2020 Lackawanna College has announced it will offer full-tuition and half-tuition scholarships to top-ranked students in each high school in thirty-three participating school districts in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania. Lackawanna College’s Honors Program is designed for top academically ranked high school seniors in the region. The new Honors Program Scholarship offers full-tuition, for up to four years, for graduating high school students ranking in the top 10 in their high school class. Students ranked 11-20 in their class would receive half-tuition, for up to four years, with the opportunity to earn full scholarships based on financial need. “Lackawanna College is this community’s college and we are continually looking for transformative ways to create opportunities for students in the region,” said President-Elect Jill A. Murray, Ph.D. “We want to reward these high-achieving local students and help them continue on their educational paths while staying close to home.” This program is the first of its kind in the region and is positioned to be a transformational opportunity for both students and the community. It is the first time that an intentional, critical mass of these high achieving students from our region have been invited to one institution to complete their college education. The Honors Program will provide not just scholarships but also comprehensive educational experiences that will prepare graduates to emerge as leaders ready to change the face of their communities.
