Chamber Hires Membership and Community Relations Specialist

The Chamber has announced the addition of Victoria Rogers as the membership and community relations specialist.

Rogers is responsible for supporting membership recruitment and retention, as well as coordinating member outreach and engagement programs. As a community relations specialist, Rogers actively engages regional Chamber and economic development partners for networking, collaboration, and government affairs efforts. She will also assist in the management of special events and programs.

Rogers comes with years of experience in sales and marketing with previous careers in the local hospitality industry, including Hilton Scranton & Conference Center, Mount Airy Casino Resort, and Caesar’s Cove Have Resort.

Rogers attended Penn State University and earned her bachelor’s degree in recreation park and tourism management.

Scranton Chamber Hosts Government Affairs Forum for 8th Congressional District

We recently held a Government Affairs Forum with 8th Congressional District candidates, U.S. Representative Matthew Cartwright and James Bognet.

Moderated by Bob Durkin, Scranton Chamber president, each candidate was given 45 minutes to discuss important topics related to their campaigns, as well as answer questions about workforce and education, business development, healthcare, the CARES and Heroes Acts, and more. Attendees were given the opportunity to submit questions ahead of time, as well as during the forum.

“We are thankful to Congressman Cartwright and Jim Bognet for participating in today’s forum and for providing our members an opportunity to hear from local candidates discussing matters that directly affect them,” said Bob Durkin.

Geisinger Health Plan Announces New Medicare Advantage Benefits

Geisinger Health Plan (GHP) announced new benefits for its 2021 Medicare Advantage plans, including virtual visits with primary care physicians and $35 monthly copays for insulin.

Medicare’s annual enrollment period begins Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7, 2020. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can switch or make changes to their current coverage for 2021.

Geisinger Gold Medicare Advantage plans are available in 44 counties in Pennsylvania with premiums and copays starting at $0 and include a wide range of cost saving features and wellness programs not available with original Medicare, such as prescription drug coverage, fitness, dental, hearing and vision benefits.

Among the new benefits for 2021 include virtual visits with primary care physicians with copays starting at $0 and an insulin savings program that ensures members will pay no more than $35 a month on select insulins.

All Geisinger Gold Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans also include:

  • Vaccines covered at $0
  • Prescription drug copays as low as $0
  • Monthly allowance on over-the-counter healthcare products
  • Additional savings through Geisinger’s mail-order pharmacy
  • Health management programs for chronic or complex conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart failure, cancer care and more
  • Access to more than 29,000 doctors and 100 hospitals across Pennsylvania

Utilizing the College’s state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, local chefs work with culinary students to create an elegant, outdoor dining experience in the College’s Courtyard on Adams Avenue. Marywood University to Host Dominican Author and Playwright During Weekly In-Person Enrichment Course

Marywood University’s Introduction to Latin American and Caribbean Literatures course will have a special visitor during its face-to-face enrichment meeting. On Thursday, October 22, 2020, from 2:30 – 4 p.m., Josefina Báez will virtually visit the class of Joshua Deckman, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Foreign Languages Program. Ms. Báez will be presenting her latest work, a self-described “fotonovelarte” titled, Carmen. Báez will be accompanied by members of her creative team, including the main artist and photographer with whom she collaborated to produce the text.

Josefina Báez (La Romana, Dominican Republic/USA) is a bestselling Dominican storyteller, performer, writer, theatre director, and educator. She is the founder and director of Ay Ombe Theatre (April 1986), and crafter of Performance Autology©, an artistic and creative process based on the autobiography of the doer. She works across various media and examines multiple issues such as migration, absence, presence, cultural change, race and women’s lives. She is most known for her texts Dominicanish and Levente No: Yolayorkdominicanyork.

During this special lecture during the Spanish program’s enrichment session, Marywood students will discuss the creation of mixed media texts, graphic novels in the Caribbean, as well as the author’s thoughts on joy, Blackness, and the power of creation to bring about change.
