With the completion of the very cool Ford Pavilion at Montage Mountain and the equally as excellent Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, we can enjoy the international musicians that we once had to drive to Philly or Manhattan to see. The Amphitheater has hosted such diverse artists as Britney Spears, Harry Connick Jr., Eminem & Dr. Dre, Bob Dylan, Kid Rock, Counting Crows, Poison, Blink 182, and Tony Bennett (hey, our parents need to get out and have some fun every now and then too!)

The Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza provides us with an excellent year round concert venue. Since opening in the fall of 1999, performers such as the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Creed, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi and Barry Manilow (another one mom and dad enjoyed) have taken the stage at the arena. Our 13 local colleges and universities also bring the latest bands to their campuses for concerts.

Concerts in Northeastern Pennsylvania always attract big crowds but if big crowds don't equal big fun for you, try hitting Northeastern PA's pubs and clubs. Tim McGraw at Montage. Scranton and its suburbs provide an abundance of local venues and musicians who offer a wide variety of music. From jazz to alternative, from country to hard rock, to Old Time Rock and Roll, there's something for everyone.

Downtown Scranton has exploded as a major player on the nightlife scene. No less than 10 pubs and dance clubs now dot the city's streets, all within walking distance of each other. Tom Petty at Montage. A typical weekend night finds hundreds of club hoppers out and about creating an energy that underscores Scranton's nickname as, "The Electric City."

Scranton residents also take pride in the critically acclaimed Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. The Philharmonic presents numerous concerts throughout the year including the annual "Fireworks and Philharmonic" Fourth of July celebration at Lackawanna County Stadium. Thousands come out and enjoy this free community celebration.

Interested in the blues? Scranton residents are treated to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Blues Association. This group promotes blues in northeast Pennsylvania, and you're guaranteed to see and hear at their shows why "charity through music" is their motto.

So, to whichever type of music you turn your dial, you'll find that Scranton's music scene is tuned to your frequency.
