Needing an introduction to our Photo Gallery, we turned to James F. Coleman, vice president and our in-house cameraman. Jim put down his calculator, snapped on his lens cap, and scratched out the following:

Photography is the art or process of producing images on photosensitive surfaces. I know, not very exciting. But just take a minute and think of what a photograph can do:

  • A photograph can freeze you in a moment in time forever.
  • A photograph can make you remember.
  • A photograph can make you feel an emotion.
  • A photograph can make you see things that you may have never noticed before.

Wow, that's pretty powerful stuff! Photography is something we experience everyday in our lives and sometimes we don't even realize it.

When I was just a young boy, I can remember my dad taking family pictures of our family with his Kodak Brownie. As I entered high school, my best friend introduced me to black and white photography. Of course, in certain circumstances color photography can't be beat. A vivid blue sky complementing the turquoise water on a Caribbean island, the sun illuminating a tree's foliage on a warm autumn day, a new shiny red car parked in the driveway or the strength of the American flag's red, white, and blue...all perfect for color.

I challenge you to capture images right here in northeastern Pennsylvania. Take pictures of our rich historical architecture, our natural wonders, sporting events, community events, family, friends, etc. Feel the power to freeze a moment in time, create a memory, capture an emotion, and see something that was never noticed before. Photography is easy and can be enjoyed by everyone. With today's fully automatic cameras, it's a snap! (no pun intended)

The following gallery is a collection of images taken by members of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge each picture. If you are a Chamber member and you have taken an exceptional photograph in northeastern Pennsylvania, we'd like to see it. Maybe we'll post it in our gallery. To submit a pic, contact Scott J.
