Small Business and Community Development

MetroAction, the small business and community development arm of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, provides MicroLoans to small business in northeastern Pennsylvania that do not have access to traditional sources of credit. Covering Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties, MetroAction, a nonprofit Small Business Administration (SBA) lender, is northeastern Pennsylvania’s leading provider of small business loans and comprehensive business training.

Since 1997, MetroAction has provided over $2.8 million in small loans to more than 200 entrepreneurs such as child care providers, restaurants, retail businesses, manufacturers and agricultural businesses and has trained and counseled hundreds of entrepreneurs. The economic impact of MetroAction’s programs is substantial, both in meeting the short-term needs of the small business and in the long-term difference in the community. These programs and resources help create jobs, increase the availability of quality child care and foster the entrepreneurial spirit that our region is known for.
