The Chamber is pleased to announce that Ida Castro will be a featured speaker at empower, the Northeast PA Women’s Leadership Conference, which will be held on Thursday, April 19.
Ida L. Castro, JD, MA, is the vice president for community engagement/chief diversity officer at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, where she developed and implemented an innovative Regional Education Academy for Careers in Health-Higher Education (REACH-HEI) program to support first-generation to college and educationally disadvantaged students achieve their dreams to pursue health-related careers. In 1998, President Clinton appointed Dr. Castro as the first Latina chairwoman/chief executive officer of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Dr. Castro has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Governor’s Distinguished Daughters of Pennsylvania Award, the PA Diversity Institute Award and the National Puerto Rican Coalition lifetime achievement award. She is the only Latina inducted into Rutgers University’s Alumni Hall of Fame. Dr. Castro is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and received her Master’s Degree from Rutgers University and her Juris Doctorate from Rutgers – Newark School of Law.
