The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed state Sen. John Blake to speak to the Chamber Board of Directors regarding the Commonwealth’s proposed closure of the State Correctional Institute (SCI) at Waymart. The Chamber also participated in a community town hall in Carbondale with local business and elected officials to demonstrate support for the facility. In addition, Chamber President Bob Durkin and Board President Mark Volk co-wrote a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf asking him to keep the prison open. Governor Wolf ultimately decided to keep SCI Waymart open.
